For new investors and new TastyTrade users, navigating the TT platform is overwhelming. Even I struggle to understand the definitions of the platform.
However, the image below is the best column layout to understand your current stock positions. Mind you, this layout is ideal for stock positions rather than option positions. I’ve also included definitions of each column.
Last. Last indicates the current trading price of the stock. The price will constantly change as shares are bought and sold. If the share price is green, then the price is above what the price closed from the previous trading session. Similarly, if the share price is red, then the price is below what the price closed from the previous trading session.
P/L Day. Profit/Loss Day is the total value (shares x current price) of a position in real time during a trading session. This value fluctuates as the share price increases or decreases. The green or red color is in relation to the price from the previous trading session.
P/L Day%. Profit/Loss Day % is the percentage of the profit (green) or loss (red) updated in real time during a trading session relative to the previous trading session.
P/L Opn. Profit/Loss Open is the real-time total value of a position since the latest position was opened. In a 12-month period, if you bought and sold a position three times, then P/L Open reflects the most recent transaction only. Another name for this is unrealized gain/loss.
P/L Opn%. Profit/Loss Open % is the percentage of the total value — profit (green) or loss (red) —updated in real time during a trading session since the latest position was opened.
P/L YTD. Profit/Loss YTD is the total value — profit (green) or loss (red) — updated in real time during a trading session over a 12-month period. This value is cumulative so if you bought and sold a position for a profit of $100, and then the second time you bought and sold the same position for a loss of $30, then the P/L YTD is $70.
Trd Prc. Trade price is the cost per share. This value adjusts if you dollar cost average. If you buy 100 shares at $10, then the trade price is $10. If you buy another 100 shares at $12, then the trade price adjusts to $11 cost per share.
Cost. Cost is the total amount that you have spent for a position, and is calculated by taking the total number of shares x the trade price.
***Bonus: For Option Traders***
Mrk. Mark is the last price of an option. If Mark is above the Trade Price, then your P/L Day will be green (profit), and if Mark is below the Trade Price, then your P/L Day will be red (loss).
