September, The Last Month of the End of the Quarter
Seven reasons why September is an important month
Today marks the beginning of the last month of the third quarter, and especially with school starting, September is an important month to reflect on the summer as well as prepare for the internal battles that lie within, and may arise this month.

#7 Operate on a quarterly system
For anyone who has worked a job that has monthly goals, then you know it’s a never-ending grind. When the month concludes, your goals reset and you start from zero. It becomes very difficult to plan ahead, and if you are not able to plan ahead, then you have no specific direction on where to go.
Publicly-traded companies host quarterly earnings calls, which provide shareholders a report and review of the business operation. Aligning your business and personal finance operation with these earnings calls will unlock new revenue-generating opportunities solely because you are closer to the source of money. When you are close to the source of money (the two foundational sources of money are banks and government), then inevitably you will benefit sooner in acquiring it. Since September is the last month of the quarter, it’s a great time to reset your operation and align it quarterly like the earnings calls of publicly-traded companies.
#6 Double the pain, double the pleasure
If you have been slacking for the past couple of months, then what better way to get motivated and complete your short-term goals than to double the pain. Complete your goals by end of the month and end of the quarter, and feel double the pleasure. September 1 kickstarts a 30-day program to complete your goals by month end, and quarter end.
#5 Have an aim, have a direction
The last quarter (quarter 4) of the year begins next month, and taking time this September to thoughtfully plan out your goals for quarter 4 translates to having a specific aim and direction.
#4 School is in session
There is a pleasant phenomena about August and September. Regardless of where you are in the world, this time of year rings a universal school bell. The start of an academic year is perfect for both student and parent to brainstorm and develop a list of short-term goals. Because the academic year is longer than the quarterly system, these goals tend to be bigger which means more time and attention is needed to devote to it.
September 1 begins a journey to plan, problem solve, and work so that ten months from now, you will have completed a big goal.
#3 FOMC meeting with economic projections
FOMC stands for Federal Open Market Committee, and this is the governing body of the US Federal Reserve system. This Committee is charged with achieving maximum employment and price stability. At this month’s FOMC meeting on September 21-22, interest rates will be raised and the Committee will provide an update of their economic projections.
These economic projections by all committee members speculate the outcomes for real gross domestic product (GDP) growth, the unemployment rate, and inflation for each year from 2022 to 2024.
The information arising out of this Committee is noteworthy, and its effects will be felt all throughout the American economy and other economies around the globe. If you haven’t seen your investment portfolio in a while, this month would be a great time to review your portfolio and ensure it aligns with your long-term goals.
#2 Retail deals
Whether buying a car, back-to-school clothes, or pots and pans, be on the lookout for deals. As stated in #7, publicly-traded companies and small-to-medium size businesses operate on a quarterly system. September, being the last month of the quarter, many businesses may provide additional discounts and incentives to meet quarterly goals.
If you do not see any promotions or advertising, don’t forget that you can kindly ask a retail associate if there are any special deals or offers.
#1 Autumn equinox
The Autumn Equinox or sometimes known as the September or Fall Equinox occurs on Thursday, September 22. This day marks the first official day of Fall for the Northern Hemisphere, and Spring for the Southern Hemisphere. Days become shorter, and nights become longer as the Sun rises later in the day and nightfall arrives earlier.
The change in seasons and sunlight in a day brings about instability and setbacks. More time is spent indoors and this causes people to be more introspective than usual. When challenged with questions or tasks that feel like a burden, it's important to slow your thinking down, and put one foot in front of the other to get to your final destination, even if it takes longer.
